Quiet in the office today - a lot of people took the day off.

It's been an interesting week - every department here has its own party, so I've been dropping in to parties for the last two weeks. They've been fairly impressive, too - people put a lot of effort into cooking. One party last night, for example, had a turkey, a ham, and smocked chicken legs (also, a fondue fountain that kind of exploded, covering everything in a five foot radius in chocolate - I'm not exactly sure what happened there). Another had a red velvet cake which was the crowning glory of a table full of home-baked goodies. There was one that featured mostly soul food, and another with all kinds of interesting spreads with pita and sandwiches and about ten different kinds of cookies. People take their holiday parties seriously around here.

I remember, during semiformals of Houseparties in May, that Quad tried to have a chocolate fountain outside with its buffet, under a large tent. It was a very windy day, and it was thoroughly amusing to watch girls approach the fountain with marshmallows only to run screaming away as a gust of wind blew chocolate all over the place, towards their expensive dresses. After about five instances of this, the chocolate fountain was quietly dismantled and brought inside.
