zippers are my bane

I've managed to screw up the skirt I was trying to make pretty badly. And did something to the sewing machine my grandmother gave me that seems to have it permanently jammed.

Go me.

I can sew buttons. That's it. I cannot help you.

Remember, Jethrien: you're a mechanical engineer! You will solve the problem!

Doh. Did you try taking it apart yet? My mom's sewing machine broke, and it was a bitch to take apart. I don't remember what the problem was, but I took apart way more than I needed to. :P

I can't get at the problem spot without taking apart the casing, which I'm not sure how to do (and not sure I could put back together).

How old a machine? If it's new enough, everything should be removable and compartmentalized to the point of being swappable. If not, erm, well, there's probably a Singer store around that could help you.

And remember, you were the one brave enough to sew in the first place. You still get major kudos from me.

Oh, well, then I should think you could swap out any of the pieces and get at what's stuck. If not, there is probably a repair shop not too far out from you. The sewing machine repair place by my house in Westchester was in the same offices as the vacuum cleaner repair guys. Go figure.

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's typical. I got my machine from a sewing and vacuum place. Apparently the motors are similar or something.

Neat. I like little things like that. Stories!

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm having trouble thinking of a sewing machine store that wasn't a specific brand (like Singer) or part of a big fabric store that didn't do vacuums as well. I guess the only people who sell sewing machines and only sewing machines are the specific brands' stores.

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there a fabric store near you that you can bring it to? They'd be just as good, maybe even better.

Ignore the whiny girl. Her mother will take the machine back to the original shop where it has an extended warranty, and get it fixed. All will be well. This is assuming her mother can't fix it herself. She just wants to vent.

What else is an LJ for? I mean, I totally missed out on broadcasting my teenage angst to the world. They can at least listen to my 20-something angst now.

If my crafting were dependent on machines, I'd be whiny, too. I'd be unable to do the projects I want and thus, whine. It's just cute that she's crafty. I'm all for yay! feminism means we don't have to sew, but let's do it because we choose to because, he hee, girly.
