My snack turned out to be inedible and I really could probably use caffeine only I don't feel like tea and I promised myself to eat less crap, so Starbucks really isn't an option and and and...

Ummm, you are a textbook case for the use of Provigil.

It's prescription (although I don't know why) and it's not "speed" (amphetamine) nor is it a stimulant even remotely like caffeine/theophylline...

But it WORKS, boy does it work. And it's amazingly effective and predictable. (half a pill, not drowsy for 12 straight hours, whole pill = 24 hours of total alertness - no jitters not hyper, just awake and aware and totally functional.
Practically ALL Air Force flight personnel on long distance runs use it regularly and it is safe and effective. (No affect on sleep patterns, after the drug wears off, that is)

It directly targets the "alertness center" in your brain, not through the metabolic pathways, and hits it alone. Sorry, it won't have any effect on your weight or diet...
Indicated for narcolepsy and contraindicated for -- well nothing except allergy to the active ingredient, and I've never heard of anyone becoming allergic to it --
