We went skiing this past weekend with katertoticus and my brother. Went to Mount Snow, which I'd never been to before. Very nice, although small in comparison to Killington. The green trails, however, were really easy blues. The blacks were actually hard blues. From what I saw, the entire mountain's basically blue. Pleasant, though - the conditions were just about perfect. Packed powder, almost no ice, cold but not super cold.

And then the rest of the weekend was playing board games with Bostonians. Dan has one of the more intriguing toys I've seen in awhile - small, remote-controlled helicopter you can fly around the room. It has a tendency to crash into things and attack people's faces, though. It's awesome. Really hard to fly, but awesome.

It's a shame Boston is so far away from New York. I'd love to visit more often, without the four and a half hour bus trip.

My grandparents had a house at Mt. Snow when I was growing up. It was at the base of one of the trails, don't remember which. So Mt. Snow has the distinction of being the only place I've ever down-hill skied. I've also hiked most of the slopes in the summer, which is not as fun as it sounds. If you ever want to go cross-country, my favorite place is right around there. Ah, many fond memories.

I agree. Boston should be closer to New York. Who needs Rhode Island and Connecticut anyway?

I don't have a strong desire to go cross-country skiing. I like letting gravity do the work for me.

I'm also not surprised Mt. Snow isn't good hiking - the things that make a mountain good for hiking or for skiing are very different.

You should build a slightly scaled up version of Dan's helicopter, and then fly it from NY to Boston :)

There already is one. I don't think it would make it to Boston, though. :) Much like Dan's helicopter, you're lucky if you don't crash into walls.

Sorry I wasn't there...

I seem to find myself in Boston all the time (UMass mostly) but, if you want a ride there one weekend, let me know :)

Remind me sometime that I need to invite folk up to my parents' upstate house. It's an hour's drive from Killington. And the non-skiers can enjoy the HD screen with TiVO or lots of shopping.

I agree with you about Boston being too far away. That annoys.

Oh, that would rock. Maybe next winter?

(Do you ski?)

Maybe!

And no, I don't ski. Used to. But my idea of vacation isn't waking up early, a, going out all day in the cold, b, and exercising vigorously, c. I just fell out of the habit of going with. Of course, change b to "going out all day in the water," and a and c get less important. Just a summer person more than a winter, I guess.
