The same as last year. So does this, or the book list, say more about me?
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Got married. Drove a rental car. Cried at work. Quit a job.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
According to this from last year, I made a couple. I can't really remember what they were, though. I think one involved losing about 10 pounds, which I successfully did. At least one probably involved something about being more assertive/productive/something or other at work. Given the emotional rollercoaster that then followed, I'm not sure I actually accomplished that. Did get more sarcastic, which is probably not a good thing. But then, I've come to the conclusion that a lot of the problem was them, not me. Hence the quitting.
This year? I'd like to lose the two or three pounds that are the legacy of the honeymoon and the holiday season. I'm kind of new to the new job, and to the marriage thing, so I don't know if I know enough to make resolutions yet.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank goodness.
5. What countries did you visit?
None but this one, unfortunately.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A calmer year. Preferrably with fewer life events. The last two years have been a bit rough.
7. What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Umm...wedding?
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Long term, I suppose getting married. But that one was set up last year. The actual logistics went well, which I'm proud of. But I think maybe what I'm actually most proud of is getting up the courage to walk away from a job which was lucrative and relatively secure because it was making me miserable.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Taking as long as I did to work up that courage.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I'm going to stay close to home on this one. My dear husband, who put up with a lot of shit while I was fighting job-related depression, including having me burst into tears because he bought me flowers. (It was a really hellish day.) My parents, who have really handled the whole "our baby is all grown up" thing with grace and calm.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I'm staying close to home on this one, too - there's far too much of the world that's gone nowhere good in the last year. My old company in general - they were disorganized, unfocused, and have stopped listening to people with actual ideas for changing things (despite proclaiming open door policies).
14. Where did most of your money go?
Retirement savings, rent, wedding, food, and train tickets, in that order.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Wedding!!!!! (Also, museum!!!)
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
"Famous", by Vertical Horizon. Yes, it's the same song. But there was a good reason we chose it for our first dance.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Sleeping.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Hating my job, and myself for not doing as well at a job I hated as I thought I should
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Spent it with my folks.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Didn't need to. He already caught me.
23. How many one-night stands?
Feh. Who needs random strangers with possibly stinky feet?
24. What was your favorite TV program?
DS9 and Buffy, on DVD.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, actually. While there's still a lot of anger and bitterness over the old job, they weren't bad people. They were trying their best, but the fit was really, really bad.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
...I'm not sure I got exposed to much new on that front. It's been kind of a year for ignoring surroundings to focus on a couple big problems.
28. What did you want and get?
Someone to share my life with. A career that I can actually picture a future in.
29. What did you want and not get?
Honestly? Nothing, really. There are little things, but none of them are actually important in the big picture. This Thanksgiving, I felt like I had the most to be thankful for that I can remember in a very long time. Most of my friends are in better situations than they were earlier in the summer. My family is more settled and happy than earlier this year. Chuckro and I are certainly much happier following the wedding. For the first time in a long time, I don't feel like I have a cloud of worry in the back of my head.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Little Miss Sunshine.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Rocky Horror Birthday Party, with costumes, Chinese food, and cake. And lots of good friends. It was an excellent birthday. (I also had dinner with my folks a few nights before, at a very nice restaurant with an amazing view of the skyline.)
32.What is one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing. Well, maybe having left the old job a little earlier. But it doesn't really matter now.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Knee high heeled boots, a skirt, and a smart blazer. Sexy librarian, anyone?
34. What/Who kept you sane?
My sweetie and my friends.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Don't, really.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Getting rid of the ridiculous idea of the Republican's damn "mandate".
37. Who did you miss?
My fellow '05s, who have scattered to the four winds.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Lydia at my old job, Caitlin at my new one. Both are wonderful people, very smart and a lot of fun.
39. Most valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Know when to cut your losses.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Personal life: "Don't wanna be famous in life, don't wanna be famous in the world, just wanna be famous, famous, I wanna be famous in your eyes."
Professional life: "You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run."
