Sleepily grumbling

Not sure why I'm half asleep today. I thought I got enough sleep last night, honest.

Productive weekend. Got a lot of the apartment reorganized, post-wedding. Paperwork and bills sorted out. We returned a couple gifts that were duplicates (the registry probably hiccuped) and switched them for the one or two things left. The one annoying bit is that we have enough in gift certificates to fill out the rest of our everyday dishes (we got 4 of the 16 settings we wanted) - but they're gone. Apparently the reason why no one got them for us is because Bed Bath stopped selling them. And despite their assurances when we registered, they did so without telling us. (They promised that if anything was going to be discontinued, we'd be told so we could buy it or have someone buy it or have it set aside. We heard nothing - not about the plates, not about the napkin rings...)

So right now we have 7 place settings of the old dishes (which are chipped and I never liked to begin with) and 4 of the new. It's not even like the silly things were expensive - we very deliberately chose very basic, inexpensive everyday plates. We'd happily buy the rest - only they're not there. Bed Bath is checking with the manufacturer to see if there are any available anywhere. If not, I guess we'll have to chose a different set. But then we've got these 4 random place settings...sigh. I know, poor poor me. Silly Bed Bath & Beyond.

Return the dishes, used or not. If BB was idiotic enough to have discontinued dishes on a registry, they'll take 'em back. (If they won't, bring them to me. I'll return them...) Then get open stock Corelle, which is a breeze to fill in (I have service for 32 by now, I think) and nice to use.

No, I agree with the other mom. You should make them take them back and choose a complete set of another style you like. If you lack chutzpah, let her exert her extreme anti-retail person will. They made a mistake. Let them fix it.

I'm sorry, by "we'll figure it out", I meant that my husband has inherited his mother's Voice of God, and the Bed Bath people will most assuredly fix this to our satisfaction, or he will rain misery upon them. It'll be fine, because Chuckro will make it so. I may lack chutzpah, but he certainly doesn't.
