So there's been an unusual number of non-binary folks I've interacted with in the last week (partially because online reunions and being able to have people over for brunch has allowed us to interact with an unusual number of people this weekend). Coincidentally, Chuckro was talking to PFLAG folks as part of helping set up his company's Pride month. (FYI - they do more than talk the talk, they're donating very large sums of money to local groups who among other things do some seriously good work with the LGBTQ+ population, especially the homeless population.) The correct title came up, which as I thought is currently Mx, pronounced "Mix", although they recommend whenever possible for people in general to use earned titles. (Like, always preferring Dr. over Mr/Mrs/Ms/Mx if the person is entitled to Dr.) So clearly the easiest solution, Chuckro declared, was to simply get all nonbinary people to get a doctorate. This conversation spun out of control, ending with me declaring that from now on, non-binary folks should be entitled to be styled "Their Grace, [insert name here]."

Well, unrelated, this evening, I needed some new pajamas, and I'm trying to buy more stuff from companies with good sustainability and human rights track records. I found a lovely shop with good ratings and lots of pretty things, and ordered some stuff. But the company's headquarters are in the UK (there's a US warehouse), and the checkout menu has the most AMAZING titles on offer alongside Mr/Mrs/Ms/Miss. "Colonel Sir", "Msgr", "The Countess of", etc.

Since we need to rethink the whole title thing anyway, I hereby propose that anyone who objects to the gendered nature of Mr and Mrs/Ms/Miss should hereby be styled "Their Grace, Flight Commander Lord [insert name]."
