Threw a little birthday party for edgehopper - cake and a card at Campus. It was nice. I think everyone had fun.

Managed to rip new holes in the damn clown costume with the quick change tonight. We're borrowing it from Triangle - they're going to kill us. Ah well, not my responsibility. The thing's positively ancient - the fabric's dryrotting and Marshall just put his foot right through the knee.

There are many interviews. They are a bit of a pain in the ass. But I'm glad I'm still getting them, so...

Ooh, poor [livejournal.com profile] jethrien, too many interviews, so many companies think she rocks. Are you crying for her yet? :)

Seriously, though, congrats on landing so many interviews in a less-than-optimal economy! (Even if interviews are a pain in the ass.)

Interviews are painful for the following reason.

1. Hot company wants you. Do you accept? Do you wait for another company? What if said nother doesn't come? Do you then wallow in self-pity?

Welcome to writing jobs, where nothing is guarenteed and no one is paid (except if you work at slate, hallmark, or harpers) :)

I'm burnt out. I'm sorry. I just finished another batch over writing samples aka cover letters.

No, interviews are painful because you do four in two weeks and no one calls you back. Or they do, and you manage to borrow a car and get up at 4 am to drive to their office for a second round and skip all your classes for the day and spend the entire day going from one interviewer to another, and then they don't call you back.

I've been interviewing since _September_. I still don't have an offer.

Welcome to a bad economy, where it doesn't matter what the hell you're trying to do.

And cut the self-pity. You've only been at this for a few weeks. Try it for several months with nothing but rejections and see what that does to your ego.

I'm sorry. I was too harsh. I'm getting pretty burnt out myself - I've got a file of about 50 cover letters. No job. And honestly, I'm not even sure how excited I am about the second rounds I do have. I'm a little bitter, and I'm taking it out on my friends, which really very fair. I'm sorry.

Sokay. I sent out 106 cover letters and got 3 replies.

One I screwed up yesterday. The next is next friday, at esquire. :)

If you're applying to jobs in publishing, you will get light-years farther sending your resume through a contact, as opposed to via their normal submission email/website. If you want to send me your resume and cover letter, I might be able to offer suggestions, and my mom might know some publishing folks we can pass it on to.

If you're applying to media/entertainment companies (where you don't know a good contact), I'm told you can get better results by FedExing a hard copy of your resume and cover letter to the hiring manager/HR person in charge of the job. Even if they claim "apply by email only."

What is your email? Mine is moooshy at gmail dot com if you want to send me yours. I'd be happy to send you a cover letter and resume, as I'd really like a job :)

Well, the problem is that I'm interviewing like crazy, and getting dumped at the second round.
