- First month and a half of school have gone well. Being in the new room without the kids that ARR was having trouble with is immensely helpful. He's so much happier, about everything. He's a little daunted by the work involved in first grade, and misses kindergarten's rhythms, but he really doesn't miss the social situation.

- Much much happier with my fellow room parents this year, too. Both people I already knew and liked and respected, and we have a much more similar approach to the job. And they're sane. And not evil Mean Girls. Maybe this won't be like being trapped in middle school again!

- Visiting my brother and his family, including apple picking with my nephews. I wish we lived closer to each other - they're really fun people and the boys get along so well together.

- Taking my parents around the Jersey City arts festival, which is such fun. Studios all over the city are open, from the big loft collectives to literally random people's living rooms. You just wander in anywhere there's a poster. Half the art I hate, but half of it I really like, and if you wanted to, you could get so so drunk. (Which we didn't, at all, but the option exists.)

- Chuckro getting murdered. Again. (Murder mystery. He's one of the youngest actors, so he can handle falling over without breaking something. I could have been in this one, but the weekend of the show I was SUPPOSED to have been in Hong Kong. Obviously, I was not in Hong Kong.)

- Taking ARR hiking in the Palisades, where we had a delightful time on the mile long intensive rock scramble that is the Giant's Stairs and were so glad we did not bring Daddy.

- Another family actually inviting us to a playdate that we did not have to plan. That basically _never_ happens.

- ARR is slightly more allergic to dairy than he used to be, and the almond allergy came back. Dammit.

- Maybe possibly poisoning a semi-famous author acquaintance. (We think she was already sick when she got here? It manifested awfully fast for food poisoning. We still felt terrible.)

- Really not loving my job at the moment, due to this stupid mega conference in January. We don't have time to do any of the things I like about my job, and it's mostly just endlessly rewriting things for people who can't make up their minds.

- Did manage to hire a different acquaintance as a freelance writer, who might be able to take a little of the strain off my back. We'll see. (I have confidence in her, I just also have confidence in work's ability to breed.)
