Woke up in a foul mood for no apparent reason today. The disgusting weather isn't helping.

But yesterday was nice. Had a bunch of people over for omg so much food wtf. By which I mean a party. Massive quantities of fruit salad and dessert were had by all.

We went to go watch the fireworks in Liberty State Park. We watched a nice, but not stunning display, and headed back. I was a little confused, because I'd remembered being able to see the fireworks being set off at South Street Seaport as well last year, and we didn't this year. We got halfway back up the park when the fireworks began. As best we can figure out, Jersey City had their own fireworks, followed by the official New York Macy's fireworks. So we stood and watched a second set of fireworks. The nifty thing about seeing them from Libery State Park is that you see the Statue of Liberty ones, the side of the South Street Seaport ones, and the Riverside Drive ones over the tops of the buildings. All at the same time - it's the same display, done in four locations (the Riverside drive ones are twin barges). We had trees kind of in the way, which was unfortunate - if we'd stayed put, we'd have had a better view. Ah well. There was some new stuff: an impressive orange color I don't remember seeing before, and three dimensional cubes, and what looks like strings of flares on parachutes. They burn a really long time, but just kind of sit up there, drifting slowly.

Someone was selling kids light up toys that played the first four lines of Fur Elise over and over and over. This person must be found, beaten badly, and locked in a room with at least a dozen of the things, all playing in slightly different keys. Then my thirst for vengeance will be slaked.

Such is the way of New York--you inherit our hand-me-down lousy weather, with the exception of lake effect snow. Cleveland's actually kind of nice today.

I was thinking. If you add a soundtrack of kids' toys playing Fur Elise to the PowerPoint slides from my last Human Resources briefing, and have it all narrated by Ben Stein, you would have ...

A) A Music Video
B) A Work to be Displayed in a Modern Art Museum
C) An Effective Interrogation Technique for Guantanamo Bay
D) All of the Above

If you added it to my Powerpoint display (on Alternative Dispute Resolution), it would also be an example of a wonderful technique to convince angry employees to drop their claim, though it probably would violate some part of the NLRA...

No one deserves that. No one.

Except the guy who forced it upon the rest of us.
