So I'm late to work today because my PATH train decided to stop between Grove Street and Pavonia-Newport. And sit. And then slide backwards a bit, then jerk forward. Then sit. And repeat. Over and over. For fifteen minutes. We were starting to wonder if we were trapped forever beneath Jersey City. That would suck.

No, just because it was protesting government fiscal stupidity.

Wow, somehow I've started a political/folk song debate.

Should I be proud, or scared?

Actually, I think the song is protesting Charlie's wife's stupidity for not handing him a freaking nickle when she goes to the Kendall Square station to hand him a sandwich every day at a quarter past two. Maybe she wants him to stay on the train.

Technically, edgehopper's mostly right. This was written as a campaign song for Walter O'Brian, who was running for election in Boston in the 40's. His platform included trying to do something about the exit fares on the train.

Maybe Charlie's wife was having an affair or something and didn't want him to get off the train.
