Late

So I'm late to work today because my PATH train decided to stop between Grove Street and Pavonia-Newport. And sit. And then slide backwards a bit, then jerk forward. Then sit. And repeat. Over and over. For fifteen minutes. We were starting to wonder if we were trapped forever beneath Jersey City. That would suck.

Oooh, sounds like fun! :)

Did she ever return? No she never returned, and her fate is still unlearned. bom bom bom
Yes she'll ride forever 'neath the streets of Jersey, she's the girl who never returned.

Well, I'll file that one under "Things that would totally suck"...

Please tell me you at least know the song, mister barber shop quartet.

Now that they're changing from tokens to farecards on the T, everyone in Boston knows that song all too well! :)

I know it! Because it was on a list of the "Top 20 Libertarian Songs", or something like that.

[identity profile] ivy03.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Why - was George O'Brian a libertarian?

[identity profile] edgehopper.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No, just because it was protesting government fiscal stupidity.

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, somehow I've started a political/folk song debate.

Should I be proud, or scared?

[identity profile] ivy03.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I think the song is protesting Charlie's wife's stupidity for not handing him a freaking nickle when she goes to the Kendall Square station to hand him a sandwich every day at a quarter past two. Maybe she wants him to stay on the train.

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically, edgehopper's mostly right. This was written as a campaign song for Walter O'Brian, who was running for election in Boston in the 40's. His platform included trying to do something about the exit fares on the train.

Maybe Charlie's wife was having an affair or something and didn't want him to get off the train.

I know that song! Wooo! Kingston Trio!!!

[identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com 2006-06-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So? It sounds better that way. Woot!

Despite being tireder than a bastard, that is a silly cheery song and it's making me happy...even peppy!

Almost as bad as being trapped in Jersey City, eh?

Just kidding.

Mostly.

:P

As mobsters discovered long before PATH, being stuck 6 feet under in Jersey City really sucks.
