Dancing in the streets

Chuckro and I went out for a lovely evening last night. We hit a trendy little Mediterranean restaurant with funky lighting and fun drinks (mmm, lichee martini) and tasty tasty food.

Then we headed up to Lincoln Center. They do this great program every summer called Midsummer Night Swing. They get bands to come play most nights of the week (and some of them are actually fairly big names) - a mix of swing and Latin, some salsa and tango. You can pay $15 for a lesson and access to the dance floor. But you can still hear the music in the rest of the plaza, so it's free if you don't mind slightly uneven pavement. Last night was a big band swing night. It's a lot of fun - dancing outside with lots of other people to excellent live music.

We got ice cream on the way home. An excellent evening.

Hey, dates are fun! Even if you're "engaged", and not "dating" anymore.

By the way, Chuckro's suggestion goes for all the New York folks. If this sounds appealing, we could make a group outing. It's free, so there's no particular commitment, and the music's really pretty good even if you don't feel like dancing. Open air concerts are fun. Especially free ones.

I think that would be fun! I am not much for like actual dancing as opposed to like clubby-dancing (shifting around and such), but I would love to hear nice music and hang out.

I can teach you a little basic swing. You will not look like a superstar, but you'll be able to roughly follow a more knowledgeable partner without looking like a complete idiot.

Or making them look like one. I just have no sense of rhythm, methinks. Oh well, it was never meant for me anywho. I much rather watch the pros.
