The last week or two, there's been a pan pipe guy busking in my subway station. He's really pretty good, has a guitar and a percussion guy backing him up. Usually playing things like "Sound of Silence" and "California Dreaming" - pretty, moody stuff. Today I heard him playing something familiar and couldn't put my finger on it.

Then it came to me.

"Dancing Queen".

Maybe "moody" wasn't bringing in the tips - needed something peppier. I don't think I want "Dancing Queen" on the pan pipes in my brain, though. I've been listening to a cd by a little a capella group - my favorite is called, I think, "On the Sea" (or something like that) - fabulous arrangement. Inspired singing. But there's one or two songs I have to skip over, because the lead just isn't hitting the notes.

Hey, it was only a new word for some people. I've known it for years.

In London, there are plenty of "No Busking" signs in the Tube

Which is a shame. I actually rather like buskers. Many of them are rather good, or at least amusing, and it's no harder to ignore the bad ones than it is to ignore the crazies and preachers.

I think the song ("On the Sea") is originally by Vertical Horizon -- it's great. I think my first exposure to it was a capella, performed by a guest group at one of the Jams in Richardson... but I can't remember who.
