We took ARR on his first trip to AMNH this morning. Definitely a different experience with a small human. Also, the things that will catch a preschooler's imagination are a little unpredictable. Giant triceratops skull, barely worth a glance. Interactive cladogram of extremely obscure extinct mammals, hidden in a corner? 10 minutes.

I do kind of wonder if anyone actually pays extra for the butterfly exhibit. (As opposed to throwing it on to one of the super saver tickets, since you already got three other things or whatever.) Because it's fun, but it's about five minutes of fun.

I think the oddest part of the trip was actually going in the Discovery Room, which is a little room off to the side with activities for smaller kids. Now mind you--I wrote the brochure for the Discovery Room IP. This was the first time I was actually in there interacting with the exhibits. They have a giant reptile skeleton cast on magnets so you can disassemble it and put it back together. It's seriously cool. ARR had a blast.

Now despite having announced that he needed a nap right away, he's currently upstairs fighting that nap tooth and claw. Oh, my little dinosaur.
