We tried to watch Cars yesterday. ARR finally begged to stop because he didn't like it. He didn't like that Lightning's "friends" knocked people off the race track, he was afraid that when Mack got sleepy he was going to break or break a bridge, and he was horrified that Lightning got harnessed to the big machine when he didn't want to be. I think movies are just still a little too much for the little guy--anything with real conflict is just too distressing.

I doubt it. We did ok with Winnie the Pooh, but that's extremely episodic and has very little in the way of conflict. Mary Poppins was not a hit, and similarly had to be abandoned halfway through. He loved Curious George until George climbed into an excavator, which was against the rules, and ARR was aghast.

I'd picked Cars partially because y'know, cars, but actually mostly because the climax doesn't involve monsters or real peril. But apparently, just the fact that Mack was driving was sleepy was frightening, even though no one got hurt, because of the potential for someone getting hurt. He doesn't like seeing people break rules, he doesn't like seeing people be emotionally distressed. Which kind of rules out pretty much all feature-length films at the moment. I think watching Cinderella cry would probably not go over well.
