Title: The Perfume Collector
Author: Kathleen Tessaro
Genre: Historical fiction (post WWII)
Thingummies: 4
Synopsis: Two women--a bored English bureaucrat's wife post WWII and a young French maid in New York in the Roaring 20s--share a mysterious connection.
Thoughts: It's possible I liked this book more than it deserved. In retrospect, some of the details don't quite make sense, the revenge plot is overly elaborate, and the last few chapters draw the denouement out more than it needed to be after we figure out the connection between the two women. (Actually, I guessed it early on, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story.)
I just loved the characters. I let myself get swept up in the period details and the melodrama. And melodrama it is. But very enjoyable melodrama.
