Title: In Her Shoes
Author: Jennifer Weiner
Genre: Chick lit
Thingummies: 3.5

Synopsis: Two sisters--one too flighty, one too serious--are finally brought together by the discovery of an old family tragedy.

Thoughts: When it comes to grasshopper and ant stories, I'm almost always on the side of the ant. I'm an ant myself, through and through. So it's a testament to Weiner's skill that she got me to actually sympathize with the hot mess that is Maggie.

I'm not going to say that this is the best book of all time--the pacing is uneven, the circumstances strain a bit, and a viewpoint character disappears almost entirely. But it's sweet and fun. Great beach read.

(Also, extra points for the speculation on how a non-student might manage to hide out at Princeton. Snatching food from study breaks, hiding in a carrel, blending in with the student body--it's actually one of the more believable segments.)

Except that you need to swipe an ID to get into the library? And the carrel's are all assigned.

In the Aesop's fable, the grasshopper plays all summer while the ant works industriously. Then winter comes and the ant has plenty of food and the grasshopper is cold and starving.
