Title: I Could Do Anything, If Only I Knew What It Was
Author: Barbara Sher and Barbara Smith
Genre: Self Help
Thingummies: 3.5

Synopsis: Trying to figure out what you actually want to do with your life

Thoughts: Most likely, you're only going to be able to use two, maybe three, sections of this book at most. But that's kind of by design.

The authors go through a number of ways in which people get stuck in their careers. While only a couple at most could apply to you, it sometimes takes doing a couple of the exercises to figure out that something doesn't apply to you. Which is useful in and of itself.

Some of the exercises are not particularly helpful. But some of them did click for me. While the rah-rah tone may be grating at some points, I found it overall relatively readable. I don't think it transformed my worldview, but it did help me clarify a couple key points. Actually, in my case, I think it helped confirm that some of the decisions I made were good ones--while my current job isn't perfect, it's actually pretty close to what I want out of a job. And when I closely examine some of the wild alternatives that have occurred to me, I realize that I don't actually want to live the lives attached to them. So this book isn't changing much about my behavior, but it did help change how I felt about my behavior.

Your mileage, of course, may vary.
