Been a slightly too eventful couple days.

- The sewer line for the house across the street burst--we had a policeman knocking on the door at 8:15 on Saturday asking us to move our (non-existent) car. This has, however, meant that ARR has had ringside seats for two backhoes, a dump truck, and a jackhammer for days. He was thrilled. Except when they were using the jackhammer during his nap, which was significantly less thrilling. We finally dragged his mattress into our bedroom in the back of the house so he could sleep in peace.

- This fortunately didn't stop the baby shower that J and I threw for V. It was exhausting--our babysitter got pink-eye, so Chuckro spent the entire party keeping ARR occupied--but came out beautifully. We did a rubber ducky theme--it looks like Pinterest threw up on the kitchen. In a good way. Rubber duckies floating on punch, jello, cupcakes with sugar pearl bubbles. It was really cute.

- I took ARR to the pediatrician for his 2-year check-up this morning, which turned into the most disastrous non-disaster. He was very well behaved and cooperative, perfectly healthy, and we did eventually see the doctor. But the couple of inches of unshoveled slush on most of the sidewalks between us and the light rail was hell to get a stroller through. We got there and found out that they'd been calling the house trying to let us know that the doctor was stuck in a traffic jam and was going to be an hour late. So I had to entertain ARR for an unexpected hour in the waiting room. When we finally got out, we waited on the light rail platform for half an hour in the sleet before someone finally staggered by and let us know that the light rail had broken down about a quarter mile down the track and was taking about 10 minutes to go every ten feet or so. So I had to then push ARR through the slush and the sleet for another half an hour to daycare, including wading through calf-deep puddles. By the time we got there, he'd fallen asleep with no lunch and I'd managed to soak his bag of clean clothes and his cot blanket. And then had to trudge back into the storm to get home. At which point most of the slush is now ice. Awesome.

- ARR was thrilled but anxious about all the hammering outside, and got very clingy. He also ended up clutching a stuffed bear he'd never really played with before. For awhile, he'd climb into our laps and we'd hug him, asking, "What's the matter, sweetie?" He then moved on to hugging and rocking the bear, asking "Whats a matter, bear?" He has subsequently decided that the bear's name is "Whatsamatter Bear", as in "Where's Whatsamatter Bear?" and "Whatsamatter Bear eat sandwich."

And now it's snowing.
