ARR recognized his first branded character today. It took him a couple of tries before Mommy (silly Mommy) understood that he was successfully identifying the cartoon head as Elmo. He's seen Sesame Street only when we showed him the Rubber Ducky song on YouTube, but I guess the handful of times we identified the toy Elmo that came with his garage sale toy bus was enough?

(He does have a favorite superhero, though. For whatever reason, he likes Flash best in his DC ABC book. Well, Flash and Sinestro.)

Maybe he just has a favorite color: Flash and Elmo do have that in common.

Could be. But to be clear, he actually said "Elmo" while pointing to Elmo. So far, he's only managed to name Mama, Dada, and possibly my ILs. This is certainly the first time he's managed to successfully name a fictional character.

And of all characters, it had to be Elmo...

It's what Elmo was DESIGNED for, so not surprising.

The Rubber Ducky song is a staple over here. Back when T hated riding in the car, singing it to him was the only thing that would keep him from screaming (no other song worked as well--just that one, over and over and over again). We later branched out to other Ernie and Bert videos, which still work better than anything else to calm him down when he's really fussy. I now know all the words to Do De Duck and Dance Myself to Sleep, both of which are incredibly catchy.
