Title: The Non-Designer's Design Book
Author: Robin Williams
Genre: Design
Thingummies: 5

Synopsis: A brief overview of graphic design for non-graphic designers.

Thoughts:Can you tell when graphic design is awful, but you can't quite put your finger on why? Do you find yourself trying to create flyers or posters that just seem...bland? This book is a super-fast run through of the very basic elements of graphic design. It's not a substitute for design school--it's not meant to be. But for all of us who can't afford to hire a graphic designer for every piece of design work we need done, this is a fantastic manual that covers everything from alignment to color theory to typography in a quick and dirty fashion. No non-essential jargon, every term defined, and no assumptions about what you already know. I can already see an improvement in my own work. No one's going to confuse it with an expensive commission from a great designer, but it's already unobtrusively more professional and polished-looking. My stuff wasn't bad to begin with, but the lessons in this book definitely help in subtle ways.

Wait what. I just read this book on the plane (to Europe!), and it's the first thing I see on LJ.
