After a good hard play in multiple parks, ARR's pants were covered in dirt and leaves and such. We weren't going out again and the apartment was a comfortable temperature, so when I changed his diaper, I just left him in his onesie and socks. Aside from the fact that no one was going to see him, he's a baby. Onesies are completely acceptable attire for the under-two set. He didn't need pants that he was just going to get dirty.

After a winter of wearing pants constantly, however, ARR apparently begs to differ on this matter.

I set him down on the floor. He promptly marched off and made a beeline for the only pair of pants he has easy access to: his snowpants. He retrieved them and brought them straight back to me, holding them up demandingly.

OK, child, you win. I apologize for offending your sartorial sense. Kid got new pants.

(Apparently we'll be needing to regularly put him in shorts after all. I'd been debating on whether I thought he was too old to run around outside in a onesie. He thinks so.)

I was visiting my nephew today. He absolutely refused to go outside unless he was wearing his winter coat and mittens. Despite the fact that it's, oh, 70 degrees. He kept them on for about 2 miles of riding his big wheel, before succumbing to the inevitable. Clearly, it's been a long winter. I'm not sure he remembers what it's like to go outside and just a T-shirt.

ARR is perfectly willing to try to go coatless--he knows he needs his shoes to go outside, but he always tries to skip the coat.
