Title: Anyone But You
Author: Jennifer Crusie
Genre: Contemporary romance
Thingummies: 3.5
Synopsis: Divorcee buys an ugly dog, who leads her into the arms of her younger hot doctor neighbor.
Thoughts: While this doesn't quite have the edge and the humor of Crusie's best, it's still a lot of fun. A couple nice points that are a surprise--some of the minor characters don't get together and instead find satisfaction through other life changes. The protagonist is aging and eventually makes peace with that. The love interest is a decade younger and eventually they both make peace with that, too. The dog does not end up the center of a crisis. The guy does not fix the crisis, either. So bonus points to Crusie for ignoring some of the more obvious places to take the story and for (for once) not making the guy the older half of the couple or the woman the hotter half. And while the guy does solve her loneliness issues, she solves the rest of her problems herself. And there's definitely a certain satisfaction to that.
