Title: The Carpet People
Author: Terry Pratchett
Genre: Fantasy
Thingummies: 3.5
Synopsis: A tiny village living in a carpet try to escape the ravages of Fray and end up needing to save an empire.
Thoughts: This piece of Pratchett juvenilia definitely shows a lot of his hallmarks. (He did spruce it up a bit more recently; it's hard to tell how much was originally there.) There are the wry one-liners. There are people surprising the world by showing good sense. And there's quite a lot about how much of the world is simply made up of our belief in things.
It's a sweet, funny little tale, if not really up to his later standards. I don't know if I'd strongly recommend it to someone who wasn't already a fan, but it's not just for the completist--if you enjoyed his other work, you'll probably still appreciate this one, too.
