I don't think I realized until ARR wasn't there how much of the background thought processes of my brain are devoted to him. I keep listening for him. There's the constant mental calculus of "is this safe to put on the floor/far enough in on the table so that he can't get it", "how much time do I have left to do things", "will he try to eat this?" going on that I keep realizing isn't actually applicable at the moment. It's weird. Also, no wonder I'm so tired all the time.

They do, or at least moms do. It's part of why you get so doofy the last month or two of pregnancy and they think it's part of why nesting kicks in--moms' brains increase the nurturing and special awareness areas soon before delivery.
