A friend of mine from high school just got herself a kickass new job in the city. The problem, though, is that it was one of those "interview on Friday, start on Monday" kind of affairs. So she's got nowhere to live. So she's crashing with us for the next week or two while she finds an apartment. If anyone knows someone in Brooklyn who's looking for a roommate...
Spent the weekend at I-Con. Had a good time. Was smothered in food by Chuckro's mom.
A couple observations/stories:
- I'm getting better at figuring out what to bother going to. There are some panelists who are fun regardless of what they're doing. (Peter David, Randy Milholland, Uncle Ghastly, etc.) Who is on the panel is more important that what the panel is on. If you can't recognize any of the names...it's probably a fan-run panel, and probably not really going to be worth going to. I managed to go to a lot more good panels and a lot fewer duds this year.
- Do not let a cell phone go off during one of Randy Milholland's panels. He will come, and take it from you, and then tell your caller obscene things before hanging up on them. Such as "So-and-so can't answer you right now, her mouth's full." Totally hilarious.
- Apparently I can compete with the girls in the skimpy cosplaying outfits. Because Uncle Ghastly gave me a piece of art during one of his panels (which I don't know what to do with - it's kind of, umm, graphic), and one of the guitarists from Emerald Rose came over and introduced himself and gave me a guitar pick. Why, I am not quite certain.
- Apparently, a J-pop dance plugged an amp into an entirely inappropriate speaker and set it on fire on Saturday. Which led to disgruntled musicians making jokes about fires for the rest of Sunday (their performances were all moved to weird places because it was their room that no longer had power).
- Fans who think that people want to hear them talk instead of the celebrity panelists are really annoying. Yes, Mr. V-for-Vendetta, give-spoilers-for-four-series-including-3rd-season-BSG-without-warning, rail-against-a-panelist-for-misspelling-a-minor-character's-name-in-a-novelization, I'm talking to you.
We had a call with a client in Europe today that they didn't show up to. It turns out Europe went on Daylight Savings Time this past weekend. Oops.

Date: 2006-03-27 09:01 pm (UTC)From:Yes, there is a Suikoden fanfic community. However, given the people who mentioned the existence of the community, do you really want to actually read anything that's being posted there?
I had really positive memories of the Asian place. Was this because I liked the architecture or because we were hungry enough not to care or because they were fine and have gotten worse or because I'm an idiot? Can anyone who was there last year answer this question?
