Title: Unveiled
Author: Courtney Milan
Genre: Victorian romance
Thingummies: 4
Synopsis: As revenge against her father and brothers, he just got her declared illegitimate so he could inherit the dukedom. Whoops!
Thoughts: Not as strong as some of Milan’s other offerings, but that still puts it head and shoulders above most other romance novels. There aren’t as many historical details or plot complications as some of the other books—it’s obvious this is an earlier series in her career. But the characters are still engaging, and everyone behaves like fairly reasonable people. While there are some misunderstandings that could have been cleared up with a single conversation, people have fairly good reasons for not having those conversations.
I like the dichotomy of the hero being enough of a ruthless asshole to get her declared illegitimate in the first place without thinking through the ramifications, he’s still more compassionate and cares more about her well-being once it occurs to him than her father or brothers ever do.
Sweet and fun.
