Mixed blessing

ARR is so close to crawling.

He's got all the pieces, he just needs to put them together. He spent part of today balanced on hands and knees, trying out combos. Frog leaping forward. Extending a leg backward. So close.

Unfortunately, the drive is continuing. Right now. Every time we rock him down, he lasts a minute and then rolls over and starts trying to crawl in his sleep. And then wakes up, miserable and frustrated and exhausted, and wails. We've gone through the cycle five? six? times in the last hour. I have no idea what to do. I can get him to sleep, but as soon as I walk away, he rolls over and starts writhing his knees under him and it starts again. Oh child. And you'll be up at seven no matter what I do.

Have you heard of the book The Wonder Weeks? I haven't read it, but the idea is that before babies make big developmental leaps forward, they usually have a period of time when they're fussier than usual and have sleep disruptions, and that it happens at fairly predictable times. We're approaching the Week 19 milestone, and we've definitely been having sleep issues (I discovered this book after googling like crazy trying to figure out what was going on). I think the next one is Week 26, which is pretty close to where you are, right?

Haven't heard of the book, but I've heard of the theory. It shows up a bunch of places, actually. I'm pretty sure we're on the edge of crawling, and he's also pretty darn close to walking with a walker. Last night was definitely him feeling compelled to practice while also desperately wanting to be asleep and not being able to resolve the two. We finally got him down around midnight, but it took about an hour and a half.
