Title: Night
Author: Elie Wiesel
Genre: Memoir
Thingummies: 5
Synopsis: Nobel Prize-winning account of a Holocaust survivor's ordeal.
Thoughts: There's not a whole lot I can say about this book that will not sound trite. There's a reason it won the Nobel Prize, and not just because it was one of the first of its kind. Wiesel writes of the worst horrors imaginable with a Hemingway-like spareness that I think is the only way this book could have been written. More florid language, more reflection would have made it seem overwrought (although it would have been completely justified). Instead, the stripped down prose cuts right to the bone. Devastating, and worthy of its reputation.
