Once more into the breach

It took two and a half hours to get to work yesterday, almost all of it standing in the 30-something degree weather. (God bless long underwear.)The line for the ferry stretched for literal blocks, twice--there was one line to buy tickets and then another, equally long line for the boat once you had your ticket. By the time I got to work, I was exhausted. I'm pretty sure I've been more functional after three margaritas than I was most of yesterday--I was definitely well into "do not operate heavy machinery" mode. Hurray--pregnancy knows I'm not allowed to drink, so it will make me drunker than I ordinarily would get without making me drink anything!

Fortunately, Chuckro's office is next to a ferry terminal--he waited until midday when the line was a reasonable length and snagged me another pair of tickets. (You can only buy one round trip at a time, with cash, at the moment.) So today should be half the wait.

Isn't the PATH back up? Or is it so overcrowded as to be not worth it?

Today's going to be crazy--no one will know what's going on. Plus, my card expired. While they're going to credit the missing week, it hasn't happened yet, and I don't want to deal with the insane PATH ticket line when I have a ferry ticket already.

If you decide you like taking the ferry, I bought a ten-trip on the assumption that the PATH wasn't going to be up any time soon, and am not likely to take the ferry again unless the PATH goes down.

I agree on the exhaustion.

Thank you, but I'd rather not. It's a long cold walk from the terminal to our house. There's a reason I'd never taken the ferry before.

Ask Chuckro, though--he might have a coworker willing to buy it off you.
