Since we started camping out in the living room, I've been sleeping very oddly. Lightly, a lot of dreams, trouble getting comfortable. (Two nights ago, I awoke with the incoherent but compelling conviction that sleeping was irrational. That there was simply no point in attempting to sleep, as it was useless impossible. Not impossible right at that moment--impossible in general.)

As has been obvious, my dreams are usually fantastical and cinematic, and rarely feature real people. The last couple nights, though, many of them have been so mundane that they're really starting to mess me up. I'm losing track of what's actually happened. For example, I dreamt that I went to pick up the dry cleaning, but opened up my wallet to find that I only had a couple bills in it. In reality, the dry cleaning was ready yesterday, but I got home too late to get it and so I had to pick it up tonight. It's a big order, so I specifically got more cash. In the dream, I very specifically remember opening my wallet knowing the correct charge, and then trying to remember what I'd spent all the money on since I got it from the bank. Walking to work, I realized that not only was I uncertain of whether I'd picked up the dry cleaning or not, I had no idea how much money I had in my wallet and whether I'd spent it or not.

It's been like that all week. I've had dreams about doing the dishes, about inspecting the holes in the walls, about routine work tasks, about getting clothes out of the bedroom. And it's driving me nuts--I can't remember what's a dream and what's an actual memory, and so I can't tell what I've done or haven't. Arrgh. Brain, what the hell?
