Dreams

I dreamt last night that my boss was a Romulan, and was kicking my ass in 3-D chess.

I told my boss about this dream this morning. He was upset.

He wanted to be a Vulcan.

My boss is cool.

Brave girl. I wouldn't have told him.

And yes, I usually post at work. Or at least when I have more access to a computer. You'd think in a household with this many computers I'd be able to get online more often.

Oh, I already knew he was cool, though, and that he'd think it was funny.

Well, as we learned at some point in the Star Trek continuity, the Vulcans and Romulans are descended from the same race. The ones who became the Vulcans chose to be pacifist, emotionless, etc., and the ones who split off to become Romulans chose the path of anger, aggression, and war.

There are a number of Romulans who are more Vulcan-like in their disposition. I think we first learned all this in the ST: TNG 2-part miniseries where Spock has gone undercover as a Romulan to help out some secret organization that was trying to do something anti-establishment. Not a clue what. I haven't seen any TNG episodes in ages and ages, and I think I only saw that miniseries once. I'll leave the pleasure of fact-checking and filling in for me to you (or, perhaps more likely, to [livejournal.com profile] ivy03).

Well, yes. I believe you're talking about "Unification, Parts I and II". I think Spock was working with a splinter group that wanted to reconcile with the Vulcans.

I also believe that we found out that Vulcans and Romulans came from the same stock in the Original Series "Balance of Terror". But I may be wrong.

Don't forget the Remans! They're the other race splintered off from the Romulans. Oh wait, they probably wouldn't mind being left in the dark. :)

I'm trying to forget the Remans, thank you.
