I just got contacts again for the first time since basically high school. (I stopped wearing them in college when I spent most days in a chem lab or a machine shop, and all days with tired, irritated eyes from sleep deprivation.) I'm wearing them to work for the first time. It's a weird adjustment. I've got the occasional distortion in my peripheral vision, which is distracting, and my eyes seem to be getting tired a lot faster than normal. I did bring the case and my glasses in case I can't last the day. This is definitely going to take some getting used to.

(I feel like lenses were smaller ten years ago. Has the diameter actually increased, or is it just my memory playing tricks on me?)

Lenses might've been smaller. It's been long enough since I've been able to wear them that I'm not really sure. But lenses HAVE been made a bit bigger to try to expand both peripheral vision and comfort.

Did you have hard contacts last time? Cause those are smaller.

It also takes a few hours/days for your visual cortex to adjust to the distortion of new lenses. So I wouldn't give up just yet.

hmm... I had tried contacts (hard lenses) my senior year in high school, and part of why they didn't work *was* because they were so small... I'd open my eyes, and I'd *feel* the contact slip down to the bottom of my iris.

I was thinking about trying them again, but they're so expensive and I dont' mind wearing glasses, so... eh. Hope you get used to yours!

No, the old ones were definitely the same texture, just not quite as large.

I wore contacts in high school too and stopped in college (can't remember exactly when). At some point, they irritated my eyes too much for me to wear them. I do wish I could wear them for special occasions.

That's pretty much the plan here. I want to wear them with costumes and to formal events and for sports. Most of the time, I'm pretty happy with my glasses.

I pretty much had the exact same contacts since I was ten, so I'm going to go with no - the diameter hasn't changed. BUT, there's a LOT of variation between brands, though, so if you're unhappy with the fit get your eye doc to let you try a different one. I just switched brands recently and was surprised how different they felt, even with all the same numbers.

As for the distortion, that'll go away. I get it in reverse, on the rare occasion when I wear glasses.
