At work! Yay!

As opposed to yesterday, where I spent half a roleplaying game on my computer running spreadsheets, and the skipped the entire second half for a conference call in my bedroom off on my cellphone.

Other fun-ness - apparently the V decided not to run today. After spending about 40 minutes standing on the platform waiting, I took a random F two stops and walked the rest of the way.

To find (drum roll, please) that apparently my prox is authorized for the elevator but not the office. I couldn't get in.

Fortunately, I made sad eyes at the security guard, who was really nice and got the also really nice janitor guys to bring me up the back way in the maintenance elevator.

Bleh.

Ah, security's worst nightmare: the sympathetic guard and the nice girl with partial access and sad eyes.

Am I getting too cynical, that that was one of the first things I thought of upon reading?

Well, you're not the only one :)

In his sort-of defense, I do have a card that lists me as working on that floor.

That's nothing. My mother has abilities that would make a social engineer go back to his day job.

The vast majority of "security" is this country is illusionary and probably more trouble than it's actually worth. Locked doors and unbreakable windows are better than all of the front-door checkpoints and doormen in the world.

That really depends on how humorless your doormen are :) Strangely, unlike, say, post-office clerks, this is really a job where you want humorless sticklers for the rules.

Wow, I thought I had it rough. I said screw work on Saturday, and only graded on Sunday... I'll pay for it now, but oh well.
I hope you get some free time soon.

I did get some free time - I guess all told it was about a half day for each day. But it's frustrating, especially when you didn't see it coming, to spend chunks of the weekend commuting.
