Due to conflicting schedules, our regular gaming night turned into...board gaming night. Which is also cool, and was a nice change of pace.
But it gave
chuckro and I a chance to demonstrate our amazing ability to read each others' minds.
Giving a little bit of background here - my mother has lost three games of Pictionary in her life. (She's an artist.) The first one was with a family friend as her partner who was the most abysmally bad player I've ever seen. (She draws an ivy leaf. He guesses "Spaceship.") Ordinarily when she's partnered with my father, to whom she's been married for 25 years now, she beats the pants off of anyone else.
Until Chuckro and I played against them. They were only halfway around the board when we were finished. We figured it was a fluke. We played again. Again, they weren't halfway through when we won. Because Chuckro and I have an amazing psychic link. We think on the same wavelength. It's remarkable.
So we started playing a game called Password with Ben and
edgehopper. The way it works is that there are two teams of two. Each team has a reader (A) and a guesser (B). There are slips of paper with a set of words printed on them. You are trying to get your guesser to say the word in one try, but you can only give them one word clues. If you fail, you give the slip to the other team, and they give another one word clue. It passes back and forth, and is worth fewer points each time, until someone guesses the right word.
We were playing me (A) and Chuckro (B) against Edgehopper (A) and Ben (B). Edgehopper starts. He has the word "Bitter". (I'm trying to remember exact guesses here. They may be a little off. All the clues are the ones given, though.)
He says, "Tears".
Ben guesses something like "Eyes".
I say "Alkaline", get "Base".
Edgehopper tries again. "Almonds.""Cake?"
My turn. "Sour...""Bitter!"
OK, simple enough. Next, I start. I get the word "Helicopter."
"Chopper." "Helicopter?"
All right, two for two. Edgehopper starts. He gets "Damp."
"Wet." "Water?"
"Washcloth." "Towel?"
"Drier." "...washer?"
"Adjective." "...damp?"
Three for three. I pull "Terrace". We're all Princetonians. I can think of a dozen ways to describe this, but all of them are two word clues. If I say anything, Chuckro won't get it, but Edgehopper will fill in the second word and Ben will get it pretty much automatically. I stare at the card while Edgehopper chuckles.
"...orgy."
Chuckro stares at me, baffled. And then ventures a guess.
"...Terrace?"
For some reason, nobody would play us after that.
