OK, subconcious. I requested an end to the dreams in which I am defending myself in a vicious and graphic battle as a rebel against an invading empire. You complied. Thank you.

Instead, we dreamed about being the empire trying to put down the rebellion. I spent the last few minutes before waking gunning down unarmed protest marchers.

That's probably somewhat culturally defined. I'm going to guess that most Americans would dream nostalgic dreams about their past, including school days and childhood friends after eating American cheese slices or maybe string cheese.
