The "official" (insert ominous music here) first meeting of the parents was this weekend. Which is bs, of course - Chuck and my parents met each other a year or two ago, and have run into each other multiple times since. But, y'know, the groom's parents are supposed to invite the bride's parents over after the engagement is announced, and so on.

Anyway, Chuck's mom prepared an impressive feast (including far too many cookies), and we all spent the day swimming in the pool, talking, and eating. The weather was gorgeous, the company pleasant, and the day an overall success.

My grandmother's 70th birthday was in the spring. (Remember the Omelet King?) The official present was a family trip to see Wicked. Of course, that show's really popular right now and we couldn't get tickets until this weekend. So my parents came back from Long Island with us, and then slept over at our house. And then the rest of the family descended upon us yesterday morning.

I was impressed by Wicked. Very impressed. One of the best shows I've seen, I think. The plot's smart, the music is good, the cast impressive, and there are all the spectacular costumes and sets and effects you expect from a big Broadway show. It's kind of odd, having read the book, though. The musical is much more cheerful, with a much happier ending than the book. The book is interesting, but seriously depressing. Not so appropriate for a family musical, I guess.
