Theoretically, we were supposed to have a hurricane this past weekend.

Actually, it was shockingly nice. So ARR doesn't know it, but he missed out on a planned movie day. Instead, we went to all the parks. Like all of them, seriously. The ones on either side of our house. The one over by our old apartment. The one on the river with the big sand feature. We even checked out the new one, which was somewhat deeper into the not-very-nice neighborhood, which wasn't really a problem except that ARR got very tired walking there and there was a lot of glass on the sidewalk. It's a nice park, though.

We also had a Mommy and ARR adventure on Friday, since he didn't have school. We hit the Children's Museum of Manhattan. I'd been there back when I was at AMNH, but not since. Most of the museum was...picked over. Apparently they close for a week in September to do refurbishments, which it very much needs, since many of the interactives don't work and most of the toys are missing. But they have the most epic set of water tables out back. You push a button to make it rain at one side, and then the water progresses through resovoirs and wetlands and treatment plants down to the city, with stuff you can play with the whole way. Lily pads, fish and frogs and turtles, drinking ducks that tip over, islands you can rearrange to divert the water, pipes to channel the water, a Lego city you can flood. More tables with shoots and spouts and magnetic fishing rods and every water toy known to man. It's very impressive. Then we went out for sushi for lunch, at his request, and read Winnie-the-Pooh while we waited. We managed the whole thing without a stroller or any bathroom related incidents, too.

And there was a party with a lot of smoked meat.
