We took ARR to Sesame Place today. We'd rented a car and arranged to meet up with friends who have a four-year-old, so we went despite the forecasts of thunderstorms in the middle of the day. We lucked out--no thunderstorms, but the threat meant there were probably a quarter of the normal number of people there.
ARR had a blast. We didn't even try to deal with the nap and just let him keep running until he finally melted down a little (which he recovered from). He'd declared before we left, when we looked at the map online, that he wanted to go on the roller coaster. He declared this repeatedly. We got there and he got a good look at the thing, and changed his mind. (It's a real roller coaster--nothing upside down, but a fair amount of acceleration and curves.) By the end of the day, he'd decided he was brave enough and went on it. He declared "I love it, but I don't like the part where it turns because I thought I was going to flip out." Big eyes, but no screaming or crying--he did great.
But the big hit were the slides. One was a dry slide that he and our friend's son were obsessed with. Honestly, I don't get why it was fun--it wasn't tilted enough, so they had to scootch all the way down. They did it like 15 times each. (Also, in the super cute--they liked to hold hands with each other to climb the steps.)
But I was somewhat surprised to find that the biggest enthusiasm were for the water slides you rode tubes down. He wasn't willing to do any slides by himself (legit, he's tiny) but there were double inner tubes that I could ride with him. And oh my goodness, did he love those things. He loved it even when he was so cold his teeth were chattering. He loved it even when we accidentally left his goggles with Daddy. This is the child who screams like a scalded cat when you try to wash his hair. But given the choice between going back to get the goggles and getting his face wet riding, he chose riding. He insisted even on going on the ginormous one with the six person boat. I think if he hadn't been shivering so hard, we would have had to peel him out of there at six pm. He doesn't have a whole lot of body fat, though, so even though most people were fine, he was freezing and was finally willing to grant that it was time to go dry off.
This is so my kid.
