Microcosm of Jersey City
Apr. 4th, 2016 08:09 pmSo this month, as an Autism Awareness thing, they're encouraging businesses to hang blue lights. Apparently one of the local preschools went on a campaign, because a bunch of the storefronts on the main drag are all boasting blue twinkle lights at the moment. As I was noting who jumped on board, I was amused about what it said about our neighborhood. The sensory therapy center was completely decked out, of course--every window and the front desk. Since that's their business, they probably would have done it independently. And of course the preschool. But someone added little blue lights to the strings of industrial-chic bare bulbs over the pedestrian mall. The hardware store has them. The bagel shop. The dollar store. The pawn shop. The hipster burger bar and the hipster tapas lounge. The dance studio. The Tae Kwon Do studio. Both tattoo parlors. It's downtown Jersey City, in a nutshell.
