We took ARR over to Brooklyn today. We hit Smorgasburg first, which was a success for us (but less so for ARR). I got a duck confit sandwich with slaw and gooey butter cake; Chuckro got a schnitzel sandwich with pickle slaw on a pretzel bun and maple bacon on a stick. ARR loved his blueberry rhubarb ice pop; however, we failed to convince him that potatoes fried in duck fat were sufficiently similar to the french fries he wanted. The french fries line, though, even he agreed was too long.

The playgrounds at Pier 6 are amazing. There was a water park he had no interest in that included not only the standard sprayers but misters, a stream, rocks to climb on, and a series of apparatuses which you could experiment with--chutes and Archimedes screws and such. There was a really impressive jungle of slides, and a wetlands walk, and an entire section of swings we never even made it to. But ARR was focused today. He had a mission. He was going to dig and then dump. So the astonishingly huge and elaborate sandpit was the hit. Two fountains drain into the sand, so you can cut channels and dig moats and play with wet and dry sand. Concrete animals erupt out of the sand. A giant wooden choo-choo train is there to be ridden. There are three wooden bungalows to climb inside and over and under. ARR could happily have spent five or six hours there, I think. However, it was brutally hot, he's got my Irish skin, and he was refusing to drink more water, so I dragged him out after a solid hour of dredging the water channel for fear he would get burned or pass out from heat stroke. It's kind of a pain to get to, but we'll be going back.
