Jelly Roll Fail
Aug. 31st, 2010 10:23 pmThe first two jelly rolls I made were perfect--lovely and sliceable into perfect pinwheels. So when I decided to branch out, I was confident. Yes, the new cake recipe warned of minor cracking. Yes, my whipped cream filling wasn't as sticky as the previous frostings. The first two had come out lovely without much effort--clearly I have this down.
Pride goeth...
My jelly roll exploded. Explodiated. All over the place. The entire counter (which I'd pridefully not fully cleared, not anticipating serious difficulties) ended up covered in powdered sugar and blackberry jam. My poor jelly roll. It's kind of an amorphous mass, with blackberries and whipped cream leaking out all over the place. There's no way this thing is going to be sliceable. It's lucky to stay on the plate and not slide off to the bottom of the fridge.
Although given what the goop I licked off my upper arm tasted like, it's still going to be quite tasty.
So, blackberry trifle, then?
