Serendipity
Apr. 10th, 2006 02:16 pmWonderful weekend. It was an adventuring weekend. My mom and I went shopping on Saturday. She'd never been to the big Macy's before, so I wanted to show her. Well, fellow New Yorkers, if you have time this week, take a swing by. The entire cosmetics/jewelry/purses section that is the bottom level on the Herald Square side has been turned into a flower show. They're still selling everything, but they've covered all the tops of the counters and everything in flowers. Entire blooming cherry trees. Thousands of dollars worth of orchids. Tree peonies and tropicals, tulips, even a lemon tree with actual lemons on it. It's astonishing. I went back the next day to take pictures.
Later, while crossing 6th Avenue, we discovered that it was Tartan Day. Because there was a parade. In the hail. We watched them for a few minutes. Those poor, poor Scots, trying to play their bagpipes and ride their horses in the pouring rain/hail/sleet. They were looking so brave and miserable. I felt very sorry for them. It was kind of cool anyway, though.
