I thought briefly of putting up an April Fool's post, but the only thing I could think of was to pretend that I was pregnant, and that just seemed like a terrible, terrible idea.

Instead, you can hear about my dreams, which were actually kind of fun and enjoyable.

In my first dream, I was a flight attendant and it was my first day. I was on one of the little jets they use for shuttle flights, and we only had about ten people on the flight. I messed up the safety demo a bit because I was nervous, but everyone on the plane was really understanding and supportive. I served everyone drinks and such, and then we landed and got a few more people for the second leg of the flight to Africa. When we landed in Africa, I had to drive everyone to the terminal in a bus. We were driving through jungle and I was kind of worried I'd gone the wrong way. I finally gave up pretending I knew where I was going, and drove up a ramp to a guard shack to ask for directions. Turned out that I was totally going the right way and the ramp was the ramp to the parking garage. If I'd driven another foot or so, I would have been able to see the United gate, and right past that was my gate, Continental. Successful first day as flight attendant. Yay! Everyone was happy for me.

In my second dream, I was flying again (on an airplane, not by myself!). I was going somewhere cool I was looking forward to, but can no longer remember. But I had an eight hour layover in Singapore, so I decided to go see a little of the city while I was there. My goal was to eat some local food (I realize now I have no idea what they eat in Singapore), but I got distracted and never got that far. My mom was with me, and we went shopping instead. There was the nicest department store ever right when you got off the plane, and we ended up getting nail polish and fancy underwear. I was a little annoyed that I'd gotten distracted by buying stuff I could have bought elsewhere, but it was ok because I still had a couple hours left to see Singapore.

The last dream was kind of connected - my parents had moved to Singapore. I was visiting them, and got major "good daughter" points for coming all the way out to Singapore to see them. I was a little sad that they lived so far away, but they were really happy there and their house was literally palatial. The basement was this endless marble ballroom that actually connected to a couple other marble ballrooms in the basements of other houses. My brother couldn't get to Singapore, so we decided to have a family vacation in Belize as a halfway point (what?). Chuckro couldn't go because he had business school, but it was ok because we were mostly going snorkeling and he didn't want to go snorkeling anyway. We visited the new Bacardi factory, which was cool, and you had to swim there across a lagoon that opened into the ocean. We were snorkeling back to our boat outside the lagoon when two orcas swam up. (No, I do not know why there were orcas in Belize.) It was awesome. They were really friendly and let us pet them. Swimming back to the boat was hard, though, because the tide had gone out and the water was really shallow. We were trying not to touch the sea grass on the bottom because we didn't want to accidentally crush anything, but we kept brushing it. I'd almost made it back to the boat when I woke up.

Wow. Those were the first dreams in awhile that I can remember that were not unhappy or disturbing. They were all actually really fun, and I wanted to keep dreaming them. Also, given that usually my dreams are pretty random, I can identify most of the elements as something I've thought about recently. Except the flight attendant part. Oh, and the orcas. The orcas were pretty random.

Sounds fantastic. I got totally spoiled for diving since I dove on the GBR and then in Fiji right after. Hard to compare with that, but Belize could give it a run for its money. The rest is icing on the cake.

I'm definitely noticing myself get spoiled. When I was snorkeling in the Bahamas, I was totally underwhelmed with stuff I know would have enthralled me the first couple times I went. Oh look, a barracuda. Hey, a ray. Now that I've seen octupi and sea turtles and monk seals and nautili and neon coral up close, I'm not as easily impressed, which is a little sad. (We went on a semisubmersible. I was again underwhelmed. Chuckro thought it was awesome. It was pretty awesome, I'm just spoiled.)

And diving - at this point, I've see a shipwreck and a flight of World War II bombers on the bottom of the ocean, along with lots of giant awesome fish. And I haven't been diving that much, but it's definitely raised the bar.

Fiji? I hadn't realized you'd been there. That's really awesome. I feel under-traveled.

I'd love to see a wreck! One thing I haven't seen. I've seen (and felt) octopi, seen squid, jellies, eels, sharks, rays, turtles (oh god i love turtles swimming), and lots of fish (and even a nudibranch!). I'm totally spoiled. I went on a submersible ride after diving in Hawai'i and it was like "I WANT TO BE OUT THERE!!!"

I stopped over about a week in Fiji. I stayed in one spot, so it doesn't really count as being well-traveled. I was there to just lie on a beach and do lots of snorkeling (and a dive). Trust me, you're better traveled than I.

I've seen jellies, rays, and eels. I've never actually been in the water with a shark. (Although we saw one from our cruise ship. We were waiting for a tender, looking over the rail, and a BIG-ASS SHARK-SHAPED SHADOW goes swimmin' on by. It was pretty cool.)

There's a wreck in Aruba that you can go snorkeling over - it actually sticks out of the water another five feet or so. (Really massive ship, keeled over.) It was cool, but kind of vertigo inducing. When I'm diving, I don't feel like I'm going to fall to the bottom. Even snorkeling in clear deep water doesn't usually quite have that effect. But snorkeling in very clear, deep water with something large next to you that goes straight to the bottom like a cliff? I had a lot of trouble convincing myself that I wasn't going to plummet to my doom. It was really unnerving, actually.

The bombers were just awesome - a whole flight of them went down, so there's just this trail of plane parts. Wings, propellers, fusilages. Some are smashed, some are still pretty whole. It's impressive. (On one hand, like most wrecks, tragic. But I think there is kind of a statute of limitations - and it's really cool to dive around.)

I like octopi. They're squishy. They also just look so incredibly awesome when they swim. And then they kind of change color and you can barely see them anymore - until something startles them, and then off they go! It's the kind of thing, if a science fiction author made it up, people would either call it brilliant or unbelievable. They just break all the rules of "normal" animals.

I kind of love diving vertigo. I like the sense that there is no up nor down and that all you have to do is balance yourself with your buoyancy checks and you can be up or down or otherwise. Major advantage over snorkeling--you get to experience that to a point where it no longer really bothers you (because you're not dependent on one direction for breathing air).

Octopi do break the rules of normal animals! They're like the platypi of the oceans! Only they're way smarter and better disguised and some of them are DEAD POISONOUS so you know don't mess with the octopi.

Know what are even weirder than them? Cuttlefish. Came upon one once, and first of all, it was massive compared to the teeny-tiny little octopi and squids I've seen up close. And it was just chilling where it was. Weeeeeeeeeird looking.

And sharks are so cool to see swimming about. I like them, though, so I'm biased. If I had thousands of dollars to waste, I'd go on a cruise to swim with great whites, which I'm convinced are really just rather large puppies. Yes.

I don't get vertigo at all when I'm diving (although I've never gone cliff diving, or been somewhere where I couldn't see the bottom - I suspect that swimming over inky blackness might freak me out a little). But then, I don't have a huge sample size. Still, when you're diving, you've got neutral buoyancy and you've got your air with you, so you're safe and you're not going anywhere. Snorkeling - Down There is dangerous, and Up Here is where my air is, and oh no I might fall! (Not that I'd have a real easy time with that - I'm pretty buoyant.)

Platypi have venom. (It won't kill you, just hurt a lot, but still.) Plus, they both have a funny plural. Octopi are clearly the platypi of the ocean. Only they're so sneaky that no one ever noticed...until now.

You're totally going to have an octopus come out of your shower and eat your head, now.

I don't trust anything that is entirely squishy except for a beak you can't see. At least sharks have cartilege you can break. I think octopi are like the jujitsu masters of the ocean.

...oh my god, octopus ninja!

Octopus Ninja. This is now the thing I fear most in life. All it has to be is a zombified octopus ninja and that's it. I quit.
