Many of you know this already, since we tried to tell people in person when we could.
Friday night,
chuckro asked me to marry him.
I said yes, of course.
He had been considering a number of plans, ranging from proposing at Reunions during the fireworks to proposing on the Seine during our trip to Paris in two weeks. But I went up for dinner on Friday night. We were singing along to a song that was on the first cd he'd ever given me, and we had one of those perfect moments, where you feel like you're glowing with happiness. And so he stood me in the middle of the room, pulled a box out of his briefcase, and got down on one knee. He told me he'd never loved me as much as he did that moment, and that he could never recreate this with something planned, and that he couldn't wait any longer.
There was a lot of giggling like idiots for the next hour or so.
We went out for dessert to a restaurant with a lounge singer doing Sinatra covers (we'd already eaten dinner), and walked along the waterfront, looking at the city skyline, glittering with lights.
And giggled like mad some more.
So, that's it. I'm engaged. We're engaged.
The ring, by the way, is a lovely thing. White gold in a filigree pattern with diamond chips, set with a square-cut sapphire. Rather Edwardian-looking, and absolutely lovely.
...Whee!
