Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

Once My Lover, Now My Friend

There's a big red sky over you and I
Sunny came home to her favorite room

Breathe in the water, drown in the sky
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing

Well, it all comes down to the things that I never even wanted
Early in the morning, rising through the street
Please send to all mankind
You walked into the room
The greatest thing that I've ever done was to run away and hide

Children, go where I send thee

Imagine there's no heaven
You remember that night when you put up a fight
I've been living my life in a cage
Imagine there's no heaven

Please folks, may I have your attention please
You called me last night on the telephone
The streets are filled with Christmas cheer
Mine is the kingdom of shy

Change my pitch up, smack my bitch up
I'm desperate for changing, starving for truth.

Well, that worked surprisingly well.

I find it funny you got "Imagine" twice.

I don't even actually like that song! (But I've got the original because I have all the originals of stuff Wildcats have covered, and I've got the divisi version because we just ripped everything on the cd.)

I have always disliked the song as well, and like it even less after having to sing it. Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-badada...

Boring and a little screechy. Hate.

You know, I don't like "Imagine" much either. Part of this is my thing about songs that are over-hyped. (I have never been a fan of "Stairway to Heaven," for example, which the Classic Rock channel just determined was the greatest rock song of all time. Like it better than "Imagine," though.) But mostly? I just don't love "Imagine." I like "Instant Karma" better if I'm going for solo Lennon.

But I'm really impressed by the stealth non-cover, the Cub version of "New York City". (I'm even quoting it in my holiday letter and incorrectly attributing it to They Might Be Giants because it's easier than explaining that TMBG's version is actually the cover...)

I actually like the TMBG version better (I don't like the Cub's lead singer's voice very much). But yeah, got the original.

I downloaded the Cub version when we arranged it for the FireHazards. The harmonies we used were basically what Cub sings.

I am so amused that Imagine came out twice. And not even the Wildcats cover, either!

This would make a fun lyrics quiz, actually. I would have had some of them, for once.
