...aaaand allergy season has hit. And the medicine that keeps me from sneezing my head off is making me super drowsy and unalert instead.

I totally need to take some Claritin when I get home. I've been okay (just a little inchy-eyes) as long as I've been in the nice filtered air at work, but the walk home with probably set me right off again.

Our windows are ancient and leaking. I actually noticed that my sniffles increase when I visit my colleagues who are 15 feet closer to the windows than my desk.

Perhaps you're allergic to your colleagues, as well.

Is that it? I've been sneezing all morning. It's better now (without drugs), but I wonder....

I've not had a full-blown attack in about a year or two, and even then they were isolated incidents. Hope that doesn't mean it's coming back.

What do you take for your allergies, btw? I used to take Benedryl until I got tired of being a zombie on it.

Zyrtec. Still slightly zombified, but not as bad as Benedryl. I'm not sure anesthesia is as bad as Benedryl.

You ain't kiddin' neither. The one time I had anesthesia was way better than any time I've taken Benedryl. I'd use Benedryl to help me sleep when I have my insomniac nights, only I'm sure it would sooner kill me than actually help me.

Zyrtec? I'll have to look into it if this is going to keep up.

I took Benadryl for the first time during my senior year at Princeton, at the break point during my afternoon seminar. Didn't notice anything until my choir rehearsal between class and dinner. All of a sudden, I couldn't stand up without intense dizziness. I ended up going straight home instead of Charter for dinner, and sleeping for upward of 24 hours. It's the only time I've ever woken up and not been sure what day it was.

Oddly, I only had allergies my last two years at Princeton, and none my first two. I blame Scully's landscaping. Clearly the entire campus needs to be replanted with Japanese magnolia.

The only time I was tired with more disorientation than after taking Benedryl was when I flew back from Australia and got in at midnight. I think I woke up at 9 pm the next day. I think.

But then I took Benedryl one time, stood around drooling (not exaggerating) for about two hours, said "I'm going to crash now," went to sleep for three hours, woke up for half an hour and sat down, then went back to sleep for ten more hours. I almost didn't make it to work the next morning. HAAAAAAATE BENEDRYL.

Aww, sorry to hear. Wasabi or something similarly spicy might clear that up! :)

No, then I'll just be drowsy with a fiery mouth.
