We actually successfully got to the bat mitzvah this weekend. Had a very nice time, too. I had a really awesome dress, so that definitely contributed to the success of the venture.
Making the weekend somewhat less pleasant, however, were events immediately before and after said bat mitzvah. As we were about to walk out the door to catch a train (all packed, already wearing coats), we realized that there was a funny sound coming from the closet. Our water heater was leaking all over the floor. There were frantic calls to the landlord, and then more frantic calls on the walk to Penn Station. Turns out we needed to have the entire damn thing replaced. But it's in now, and there doesn't seem to have been any water damage, and we didn't have to pay for it. Just a little more stress than we needed to start the weekend with.
Also, something I ate last night didn't sit well with me at all. Was up at 4 this morning with a really bad stomachache. Things seem to have settled out again, but I've been kind of woozy and spacey all day. Bleh.

The socket that doesn't work in the guest room. The window that spontaneously broke (it had to be a temperature thing - it was only the interior pane of a double-paned window). The drain that doesn't quite drain right or the door that's a little crooked in the bathroom. And the water damage - we've had two sets of windows leak, a leak down a wall, and our upstairs neighbor's toilet overflowed into our closet.
Absolutely none of our personal possessions has ever been damaged. Stuff gets fixed eventually. I'm just really, really glad that none of this is actually our problem.
