We're currently in rehearsals for a play that opens in a little over a week. (Probably more on that at some point, but suffice it to say, it's an Ayn Rand, I don't like the play very much, and we both have relatively minor roles. If you're bored and in the area, it will probably be moderately amusing, but don't feel bad about missing it.) When we started rehearsals, Chuckro told them we needed either Wednesday or Thursday off every week but dress rehearsal week for our weekly gaming night. This week, we've got Thursday, and thus planned to do gaming that night. I teased him about being in trouble for skipping Valentine's Day, but made it clear I didn't actually mind.
Rehearsal starts at 7:30, and I usually don't get out of work until 6:30, so I've been going straight to rehearsal and he's been packing dinner for me. Last night, he sent me an email to the effect of "I just realized that dinner isn't going to travel well, can you try to get out a few minutes early so you can eat it at home?" I didn't think anything of it, and left a little early. I got home...and the lights are dimmed, and there are candles on the table, and a bouquet of flowers, and the fine china and champagne flutes. He'd made good steaks and fancy rice and a really nice salad. Totally unexpected, totally a surprise.
Best sweetie ever.
(I got out of rehearsal early because my part was done, and made him brownies with peppermint patties baked into them, in a heart shaped pan. After all, with that kind of a display, I couldn't go with my original plan of ignoring Valentine's Day.)
